About Alabama VOAD
Alabama Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (Alabama VOAD) is a coalition of nonprofit, faith-based, community, and government partners working together to help Alabamians prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. As the state affiliate of National VOAD, we bring local knowledge and trusted relationships to every phase of disaster relief across Alabama.
Our Mission
Our mission is to strengthen the capabilities of organizations working together throughout Alabama to serve communities affected by disaster. By aligning member resources before a disaster strikes, we shorten response times, reduce duplication, and ensure survivors get the right help from the right partner.
The Four Cs of Disaster Response
Alabama VOAD members commit to the Four Cs that guide every National VOAD affiliate:
Cooperation — working alongside one another rather than in competition.
Communication — sharing information clearly before, during, and after a disaster.
Coordination — aligning services so survivors aren't missed or duplicated.
Collaboration — combining strengths to meet needs no single organization could meet alone.
Who We Are
Our membership includes locally based Alabama nonprofits and state representatives of national disaster relief organizations. Together, our members cover a wide range of services, from damage assessment and muck-out to feeding, sheltering, spiritual care, crisis counseling, and long-term recovery support.
